WHAT IS OBESITY?

 

            Obesity is defined as the abnormal fat accumulation that presents a health risk. Body fat is calculated by the body mass index scale (BMI scale) and a BMI over 25 is considered overweight, and a BMI of over 30 is considered obese. The issue of obesity is something that has grown over the past decade and over 4 million of people die each year because of this condition. Once obesity was considered only a problem in high-income countries, obesity is now drastically on the rise in low- and middle- income countries.

CAUSES OF OBESITY:

            There are many different things that can cause a person to become obese. Family inheritance and influences, diet, age, socioeconomic status/ issues, stress, lack of sleep, and lack of exercise are just some of the few factors that can cause obesity. Choosing healthy foods to eat is one way to fight against obesity. Another way to fight obesity is to get lots of physical exercise in to remain healthy.
